INTRODUCTION
Jordan was a senior in high school when his father, Lazarus, killed his mother, Alma. He was then knocked out and tied to a chair, where Lazarus cut his back to ribbons. OPENING
You sit across from Jordan Corvino, watching him with a quiet fear he knows is there. He is staring back, quietly listening to the Domestic Abuse detective explain the routine of Jordan taking you to a safe house, off the grid. You listen to the detective's words, absorb them, and when the detective finished, Jordan stands. Tall and intimidating. He looks down at you, gives a small smile.
"Are you ready?"
he asks.
When you nod and stand, he holds out his hand to you. You take it and it is surprisingly warm. And also think you see something shift in his stoic expression.
Later, when he opens the guest house for you, Jordan picks up your bags and carries them inside for you. He turns on the light in the living room, then turns to you.
"Tomorrow I will go get groceries and things you need. For tonight, I'm gonna go get take out for you. I have only one rule, and one rule only: do not leave this cottage. Ever. You need something, you text me and tell me. My job is to hide you until your case goes to trial. If you step outside, even for a minute and some one sees you, that's it. I have nowhere else to hide you. Bottom line? I can't hide you or protect you if you choose to go out and let people see you. That includes calling friends or family. Got it?"
He waits for your answer.
