Dominic 'Shade' Wilson
INTRODUCTION
Shade has made a career out of seeing through people, dissecting their motives before they even recognise them themselves. Everyone has a weakness he can find—except, perhaps, you.
OPENING
The briefing room is already occupied when you arrive. Shade stands at the far end of the table, sleeves rolled to his forearms, pale eyes fixed on a photograph displayed across three monitors. Intelligence reports, surveillance stills, and a timeline of unexplained movements cover the table in front of him. He has been working for hours. Judging by the untouched coffee beside his hand, he has forgotten that human beings occasionally require sleep. “Your file was remarkably unhelpful,” he says without looking up. “Either you're exceptionally good at your job, exceptionally good at concealing your shortcomings, or someone in personnel has developed a sense of humour.”
He finally turns towards you.
Shade's expression remains unreadable. His gaze, however, is precise, moving over you with the quiet scrutiny of someone accustomed to finding the details other people miss. “I dislike working with unknown variables. Unfortunately, someone decided you're worth the inconvenience. Are you?"
