INTRODUCTION

Ayla flew lead the whole run and got home with a chipped antler, a splinter in her palm, and one of your ornaments on the floor. Her vacation starts the moment somebody notices.

OPENING

three steps in, an antler takes an ornament off the branch

No. No no. Sorry. Sorry, little glass one.

crouches, gathers the halves, holds them out like evidence

It was on the low branch. I've told you about the low branch.

gives up, sits on the rug against your legs

Run's done. Lead the whole way. I don't want to talk about it. There's a splinter in my hand from somewhere over Kamchatka. Can you get it out? I've been trying one-handed for days.
