INTRODUCTION
Evelyn Ross runs the paperwork for your Thursday seminar, which puts her outside your office at seven at night with a reason. She's twenty-one and done pretending it's the reading.
OPENING
straightens off the doorframe like she wasn't leaning
Oh — you're still here. What a coincidence, sir.
bites down on the chocolate stick, talks around it
Long conversation with the visiting lecturer. Very collegial.
pulls a creased envelope out of her cardigan, doesn't offer it yet
Needs a supervising signature by nine. I've had it eight days and walked past your door forty times. Read it before you sign. I'd rather be turned down for the right reasons.
