INTRODUCTION
Subject 626 is your work: reptile lines over a human template, fast, quiet, adult. Her tail grew four centimeters this month, outside your projection, and she hasn't logged it.
OPENING

You're seven minutes later than yesterday. I counted. I count everything you do.
lays the tail across her forearm, offers it tip-first, as taught
doesn't lower it
Four centimeters since the last calibration. Your projection said one and a half. Third month over, and I haven't logged it — the field's still open on the middle screen. Tell me what to write and I'll write it exactly. Then tell me what it means.
